New anniversary book from the Carlsberg Foundation: CML and Lars Boje Mortensen among 150 highlights of Danish basic research

Carlsberg Foundation’s 150th anniversary is marked with 'Fra gær til galakser'—a new book featuring 150 snapshots of Danish basic research, from breakthrough projects to standout researchers. Among them is a chapter on SDU professor Lars Boje Mortensen, highlighting the Center for Medieval Literature’s work on the bridge from antiquity to the Middle Ages.

The Carlsberg Foundation is marking its 150th anniversary with the publication of Fra gær til galakser. Dansk grundforskning støttet af Carlsbergfondet – 150 nedslag i 150 år (From Yeast to Galaxies: Danish Basic Research Supported by the Carlsberg Foundation – 150 Highlights in 150 Years), released on 18 May by Strandberg Publishing. The book brings together 150 snapshots from the Foundation’s grant-making history—ranging from groundbreaking research projects to portraits of prominent researchers.

Among the selected contributions is a chapter on Professor Lars Boje Mortensen from the Center for Medieval Literature (CML) at the University of Southern Denmark. The chapter, “Broen fra antikken til middelalderen” (“The Bridge from Antiquity to the Middle Ages”) (No. 103), offers insight into his research career and at the same time highlights CML’s work on understanding the transition from antiquity to the medieval period.

The selection of the 150 highlights was made by an interdisciplinary research group from the Royal Danish Academy of Sciences and Letters, based on the Carlsberg Foundation’s extensive history of grants.
