Novo Nordisk Foundation Pre-Graduate Scholarships aim to provide the most talented students with the opportunity to work on research projects before obtaining their master's degree. This will enhance their ability to get the best start on a further research career.
Novo Nordisk Foundation Pre-Graduate Scholarships are awarded as scholarships of DKK 200,000 (can be divided into 2 scholarships of DKK 100,000), which must be used for salary and operational costs in connection with a Pre-graduate project at one of the four Faculties of Health Sciences in Denmark.
The Novo Nordisk Foundation annually distributes 28 Novo Nordisk Foundation Pre-graduate Scholarships among the four Faculties of Health Sciences in Denmark.
The distribution is based on the size of the faculties:
- AU has 9, (12 month scholarships (5 in the spring, 4 in the fall))
- KU has 9, 12 month scholarships (5 in the spring, 4 in the fall)
- AAU has 4, 12 month scholarships (2 pr round)
- SDU has 6, 12 month scholarships (3 pr round)
The 12 month scholarships can be divided in to two 6 month scholarships - this depends on what the applicants apply for.
The Scholarships are given solely to projects where the student, under supervision, conducts an independent research project with ambitious research goals and a great opportunity to get a good start on an early research career.
Each Scholarship constitutes a fixed amount of DKK 200,000 for 12 months, or DKK 100,000 for 6 months, which is paid into a research account managed by SDU. (You cannot apply for less than 6 months of payment).

Novo Nordisk Foundation Pre-Graduate Scholarships can be applied for by a main supervisor, with a named student enrolled in a health science program at one of the four Danish Faculties of Health Sciences where the master's thesis is 30 ECTS or less. The main supervisor and the student must be from the same university
A main supervisor can only be a main supervisor for one Novo Nordisk Foundation Pre-graduate Scholarship project at a time but can apply for and receive multiple scholarships in succession.

There are two annual calls for application:

The applications must include:
- English-language project description with an explanation of the project's research goals/hypothesis, relevance, method, and feasibility, and a clear description of the applicant's role in the design and implementation of the project
- Explanation of the applicant's motivation and qualifications, including CV and grades
- Description of the research environment and agreements for the planned supervision
- Budget
The application must also explain how the research project fits into the student's regular studies. The main supervisor must be employed where the student is enrolled, at an associate professor level at the minimum.
After the deadline, all applications are reviewed by SDU, and it is checked that the mandatory attachments are included. The applications are then sent to the reviewers.
- Reviewers from AU evaluates KU and vice versa
- Reviewers from AAU evaluates SDU and vice versa
The reviewers receive a scoring sheet to complete during the evaluation. The reviewers assess applications focusing on the project, applicant, and research environment.
All applicants receive a response to their application once the evaluation process is completed
- For the round with the deadline on February 20th, we expect to send out answers primo April
- For the round with the deadline on September 20th, we expect to send out answers primo November
Payment SDU handles the payment of salary to all applicants who have been awarded a Scholarship and also manages the operational costs.
