Young people today are deeply affected by climate change, and many experience climate anxiety. The FUSION project gives students a creative, research-based, cross-border space to imagine positive climate futures, strengthen their sense of agency, and develop concrete climate initiatives together.
When and where:
- An introduction day for the participating teachers
- Kick-off day at one of the universities (SDU or CAU)
- 8 in-class teaching modules – when it fits your schedule from November to January
- A 2-day Camp 13. & 14. April (week 15) in Odense, Denmark
What is the project about?
By the use of flash fiction exercise, students (ages 16–19) write short future stories in English, imagining life in 2066. These stories are uploaded to a research platform and analyzed using AI, text mining, and sentiment analysis. In class, the students will work with the stories and analyze them themselves.
The method is proven: “Flash fiction stories … facilitate access to visionary knowledge” and help students think freely and beyond the present.
New for the second Round of FUSION:
- We bring fully tested learning materials, refined through the first Danish/German pilot.
- We build on a successful Climate Action Camp, already held in Round 1, which demonstrated how powerful cross-border collaboration can be.
The project combines:
- Visionary future thinking
- Extreme citizen science – students analyze their own data and identify action pathways
- Creative workshops, masterclasses, and a 2–day Climate Action Camp
What do schools gain?
- Participation in an international Interreg project with SDU and Christian-Albrechts-Universität Kiel
- Ready-to-use, classroom-tested teaching materials adapted to both Danish and German contexts
- Access to a new digital platform
- A joint Climate Action Camp with improvisation theatre, future scenario work, future job fair and a competition for the best climate initiative
What is required from schools?
- Participation during 2026–2027 (Masterclass, Kick-off day at one of the universities, 8 teaching modules in class and a 2-day camp in Odense, Denmark)
- Project covers activity and travel expenses (not salary)
