On the Choices of Artists and Art Consumers

Caterina Mauri

In the chapters my thesis explores topics at various intersections of three fields: The economics of the arts, innovation and creativity. I explore the effects of the radio revolution in the 1920s on musicians and music, investigate the drivers of creativity and lasting influence in classical composers and explore the role of within-household bargaining in attendance at cultural events such as the opera.

Across chapters, I make use of empirical data from various, often historical, sources and apply a range of empirical techniques. The thesis forms the core of a larger set of projects with similar subject matter that I have started with different groups of co-authors.
