The Historical Economics and Development Group (HEDG) at SDU invites submissions for the 14th Annual Workshop on Growth, History, and Development. This year’s theme is ‘Bridging Past and Future in Women’s Educational Achievement’. All are welcome, but junior faculty and graduate students are particularly encouraged to apply.
This year’s workshop is a unique and significant gathering, taking place just before International Women’s Day, and celebrating 150 years since women gained access to university education in Denmark. This milestone highlights the profound contributions of women to academia, economic growth, and social development across the Nordic region and beyond. The workshop will reflect on the progress achieved since 1875 and explore the ongoing challenges and future directions for gender equality in higher education. By bringing together leading scholars, policymakers, and thought leaders from diverse disciplines—including economics, history, and gender studies—this workshop aims to foster an interdisciplinary dialogue on human capital, gender and labour markets, and the role of new data sources in uncovering the long-term impacts of education. This blend of historical reflection and forward-looking research makes this year’s workshop a truly special event.
Prospective speakers should submit an extended abstract (max. 2000 words) that includes methodology and main results. This should be submitted to the HEDG email inbox (SDUeconhist@sdu.dk).
Deadline for submissions: 12 January 2025. Authors chosen to present will be notified by 17 January, and a preliminary program will be announced shortly thereafter.
The workshop is a two-day event. There is a registration fee of 850 DKK. Refreshments, lunch, and a dinner is provided.
