Aim and content:

The aim of the course is to provide an overview and a basic understanding of economic evaluation in health care, to enable participants to perform economic evaluations themselves, and to critically assess the quality of economic evaluations of health care interventions in the literature. Topics covered: The normative foundation of economic evaluation. Principles of economic evaluation in health care (decision rules in cost-benefit and cost-effectiveness analyses). Measuring and valuing health outcomes. Estimating cost. Discounting. Modelled-based and trialbased economic evaluations. Sensitivity analysis. Use of economic evaluation in decision making. Assessing the quality of economic evaluations.
