Hire an industrial PhD or industrial postdoc and gain access to and contributions to the latest research.

Your organisation can hire a researcher either as an industrial PhD or industrial postdoc to complete a research project and create results that can take your organisation to a whole new level.

Industrial PhD

By hiring an industrial PhD, your organisation gains access to – and contributes to – the latest research-based knowledge from the University. New knowledge and insights that can support the development of the organisation so that you are better equipped to meet the challenges of the future.

  • The PhD student is employed full-time for three years under normal civil service conditions and is simultaneously enrolled as a PhD student at the University of Southern Denmark.

    The course is supervised by a company supervisor and a research supervisor from the University of Southern Denmark.

  • An industrial PhD course lasts three years, during which your organisation benefits from a committed, highly skilled graduate and access to an established research environment at the University.

  • The salary is agreed between the student and your organisation, but must at least correspond to the agreed PhD salary.

    Your organisation can apply for a salary grant from Innovation Fund Denmark during the three-year term of the project through the Fund’s ‘Business Researcher’ grant programme. In addition, your organisation can be reimbursed for expenses for short stays at home and abroad, longer stays abroad and stays at international host universities.

    Grants may also be sought from Innovation Fund Denmark or other public authorities for instruments, equipment, purchased knowledge and consultancy services needed to implement the project.

Industrial Postdoc

An industrial postdoc is a professional research project carried out by a researcher who has obtained his/her PhD degree within the last three years. An industrial postdoc is a highly qualified workforce who contributes the latest knowledge from their research field and competencies to develop your organisation in that particular field.

  • The industrial postdoc is employed in a private company, municipality, association, etc., and the project is carried out in collaboration with the University.

    The organisation must have in-depth industry knowledge and general experience with the project topic. Research experience is not a requirement.

    The organisation and the University each provide a mentor.

  • The industrial postdoc can be employed for between one and three years, depending on the needs of the organisation and the scope of the project.

  • The salary is agreed between the organisation and the industrial postdoc.

    The organisation can apply for grants from Innovation Foundation Denmark of up to DKK 22,000 per month for salary and DKK 2,500 per month to help cover the industrial postdoc’s travel expenses.
