Entry requirements for other educations
You can also apply for admission if you have a corresponding bachelor's degree that contains at least 10 ECTS in any combination of the following areas:
- Statistics
- Mathematics
- Programming
- Quantitative methods
For example, if you have 5 ECTS in Statistics and 5 ECTS in Mathematics, you are qualified for admission. The same if you have all 10 ECTS within a single subject area, e.g. Quantitative methods.
English language requirements
The programme is taught in English. Therefore, you are required to submit proof of your English proficiency unless your Bachelor's gives you a legal claim for admission. See the English language requirements.
Supplementing your degree
It is possible to supplement your Bachelor’s degree with the course Introduction to R (5 ECTS) to meet the admission requirements. The course is offered at SDU in August and must be completed before study start.
Introduction to R
The purpose of the course is to introduce the students to the programming language R. R is one of the most widely used programming languages in Population Studies and other quantitative sciences. In the course, students will get to work with and analyse data from a broad range of disciplines: health, population, economics. By the end of the course, the students will be able to use general programming features, analyse and visualise data.
Selection criteria
If there are more qualified applicants than there are places on the programme, applicants will be prioritised according to the following criteria:
- Grade average in the relevant, qualifying education.
- Statement of academic interest: How does the knowledge you gained during your BA prepare you for pursuing the MSc. in Population Studies. You have a maximum of 1,200 characters including spaces.
There will be given a maximum of 1 point credit for the statement of academic interest, which will be added to the grade average.
As a bachelor's student at SDU, you can apply for permission to follow up to 30 ECTS Master's level courses even though you have yet to complete your Bachelor's degree.
You can be granted permission if you have the necessary academic qualifications. The progression of your Bachelor’s programme is crucial to the outcome of your application.

Have you completed a Master's programme?
If you've already obtained a Master's degree, you can only be admitted to a new programme if there are vacant study places in the programme.
