Advanced epidemiology

Sharpen your skills in modern epidemiological methods and gain the tools to independently read, understand and critically assess the latest research. This course qualifies you to work methodically with epidemiological studies and to develop high-level research proposals on your own.

Learn to work critically and methodically with research

You will develop the skills to analyse and discuss scientific epidemiological articles – particularly those published in international journals. The course enhances your ability to critically engage with the research literature and to understand how methodology affects results and interpretations.

Understand and apply modern epidemiological methods

Teaching covers key topics and current methods in epidemiology – including their application, strengths and limitations. You will learn how to select appropriate methods based on the research question, and how different methods impact data quality and analysis.

From research idea to study protocol

The course prepares you to independently plan an epidemiological study. You will work on your own research idea and learn how to define a relevant research question, choose suitable methods and draft a study protocol that can serve as a foundation for future research.

Overall aim and content of the course

The course qualifies you to engage in epidemiological research at an advanced level. You will learn to read, analyse and evaluate scientific articles, apply modern methods, and independently design research studies and project proposals within the field of epidemiology.
