The future of weight bearing standing frames

Most children stand independently by the age of 11 month, allowing them to apply different loads on their bones, joints and muscles, and experience their surroundings from a new perspective. Children who do not reach the motor milestone “standing” in early childhood are often offered medical devices such as standing frames to compensate for that function and enable them to gain benefits of the standing position as typically developing children

The overall aim of this PhD project is to provide important clinical knowledge about the importance of weight bearing in standing frames for children with disabilities. The project has a mixed methods design consisting of three sub studies, each with their specific objectives related to the overall aim, and comprises both quantitative and qualitative methods.
