Terms

Please note that we only find accommodation for you once. If you decide to extend your stay, you will either have to keep your accommodation or give it up and find something new on your own.

If you leave Denmark for a period of time (eg. sabbatical leave, internship or exchange stay) we cannot guarantee new accommodation for you when you return to Denmark. We will of course try to help you as best we can.

Details of the terms are stated in the relevant application form. Read the terms carefully before signing and sending the accommodation form.

When do you receive information

You receive an email with information on your accommodation from the Kolding Accommodation Office in July for the autumn semester and in late December/early January for the spring semester. This is true if you applied for accommodation by the application deadline.

Right of withdrawal

Please note that you have a 14 days' right of withdrawal from the date on which you have received an offer for accommodation from us. More information is available on the accommodation form.

How do I get my keys to accommodation

There are two different ways of getting the keys to your accommodation:

1) Your buddy will have the key to your accommodation and will bring it when he or she picks you up at the train or bus station in Kolding
2) You will get an email with instructions on where to pick up your key.

You will receive further information on how to get your key in the welcome letter from your study secretary.

Private landlords

In Kolding there are no dormitories. Instead, the Accommodation Office has entered into agreements with private landlords with multiple single rooms with shared kitchens and bathrooms (almost the same as a dormitory - only in a smaller scale).

The student accommodation is situated close to the city center, the train and bus station and the university.

Please notice that:

  • The accommodation offer includes a single room with shared bathroom and kitchen
  • The rent per month is approximately between DKK 2,400 and 3,500 including utilities. Before arrival you will have to pay a deposit usually equivalent to 2-3 months’ rent
  • You can find the entire set of conditions in the accommodation form on the right side of this page. Please read them carefully.

Furniture and equipment

  • Your room will be furnished with a bed, a desk, shelves, chair and a lamp. A linen package with be provided. You are not to return the linen package. Please dispose of it yourself before you leave. Kitchenware will be available in the shared kitchens.

Internet access

  • All accommodations has internet access

Accommodation requests

You are welcome to put in a request if you know which of our accommodation options you would prefer, but we cannot guarantee you'll be offered your request.

Want to find your own accommodation

The accommodation office in Kolding has entered into agreements with landlords that ensures that you will get the best offer possible at the price. Most other offers in Kolding do not include utilities, furniture, kitchenware or internet (which you would then be required to purchase or bring with you from home). Most likely, your contract, house rules, maintenance rules etc. will be in Danish, and you are not entitled to the university's assistance in connection with translations and/or any disputes between you and the landlord.

Should you decide to find accommodation on your own despite this, you may check these links:

When do you start paying for your accommodation?

You pay rent from the day your accommodation is available. It may be as early as August 1st/January1st but can also be as late as September 1st/February 1st. If your room is available from August 1st, you pay rent from August 1st even if you do not arrive until e.g. August 25th or some other day after August 1st.

If your accommodation is not available until September 1st/February 1st, you will have the possibility of signing up for temporary accommodation. You receive information about this together with the information on your accommodation.

Tenancy agreement

Please notice that the tenancy agreement is always in Danish (it has to be to be legal in Denmark). You can see a translation of a standard tenancy agreement here.

Deadline for giving notice

The deadline for giving notice is carefully described in your tenancy agreement and notice must always be given in writing to the accommodation office (on a special form, Termination notice of tenancy agreement (which will also be in your welcome folder)). There is a 3 months’ notice to the
first of a month. All landlords require that you move out of the accommodation 14 days before your tenancy agreement expires, in order for them to prepare the accommodation for the next tenant. If you have any doubts about how to give notice, please contact the accommodation office upon arrival, as a late notice may result in additional costs for you.

Moving out inspection

In connection with giving notice you are required to make an agreement for a moving out inspection. The landlord’s caretaker will inspect the accommodation in your presence and make a note of what needs to be done. In that period of time the accommodation will be painted and floors
will be sanded and lacquered, if needed. The expense of this will be deducted from your deposit. The inspection note, both upon moving in and moving out, should be available to you in English. If this is not the case, please contact the accommodation office before signing anything.

Handing in your keys

It is very important that you hand in the key to your room to the accommodation office when you leave. If the keys have not been handed in, a new lock has to be put in at your expense - as you cannot have access to a room that is no longer yours.
