The ACQUIRE-HF project has now officially been launched and the kick-off meeting was held the 22th October 2015 at Hotel Plaza in Odense. The kick-off meeting was attended by 27 collaborators and project members. The goal of the meeting was to give all involved participants an in-depth understanding of the visions of the project, and through a plenary session to discuss its strengths and challenges. The presentations and plenary discussion turned out to be incredibly fruitful and we would like to thank all participants for their presence and valuable input.

Prior to the kick-off meeting, a pre kick-off meeting was held in order to discuss the ACQUIRE-HF platform and intervention, which will be tested in a randomized controlled trial that will start recruiting in 2016. The pre kick-off meeting was attended by Professor John Spertus, Professor John Cleland, Professor Jacob Møller (OUH), Professor Susanne S. Pedersen (SDU and OUH), Dr. Kim Smolderen, University of Ghent, and Ole Skov (SDU).

After the kick-off meeting, Professor John Spertus had the following comment about the ACQUIRE-HF project and his role as an advisory board member:

“I am honored to be a part of the ACQUIRE-HF Advisory Committee. This is an ambitious proposal that seeks to overcome prior challenges with telemedicine by directly engaging patients as ‘co-pilots’ in managing their heart failure. While the promise is great, there are clear challenges in devising and explaining heart failure management to patients and getting them to better understand their disease and how to treat it. It will require the creative energy of all of the participants to develop care protocols and I am very excited to see how this evolves. We are all aware of the challenges in caring for heart failure and any progress made through this effort will have ready application in the States and throughout the world."

The project’s principal investigator Susanne S. Pedersen was very satisfied with the outcome of the kick-off meeting and is looking forward to implementing the many great ideas which came out of the meeting. She had the following comment about the kick-off meeting:

It was an exciting day with lots of input and a strong dedication by all the present stakeholders. It was a good idea to have a kick-off meeting at this stage of the project in order to increase co-ownership and to direct the attention towards the many tasks which lie ahead before the inclusion of the first patients around September 2016. As the project’s principal investigator I feel privileged to be working with this team of experts and my hope is to be able to create an innovation which can help patients with heart failure live a better and longer life with their chronic disease. “
