Cognitive Processes in Social Settings | 7-9 January

This three-day Ph.D. course will provide an introduction to the study of cognition as a social phenomenon. The focus will be on long-standing conceptual issues that continue to inform current work. The student will learn about the following topics: expertise, group coordination, the detection of errors, sociomaterial artefacts, and large-scale collective decision making around complex systems such as the climate.

Deltagerne introduceres til ny viden inden for samtidshistorisk forskning, diskuterer feltets styrker og svagheder samt reflekterer over samtidshistoriens relevans i dag. I hvor høj grad adskiller samtidshistorie sig fra andre grene af historievidenskaben? Hvilke særlige krav og udfordringer støder samtidshistorikeren på i forskningen og i sit arbejdsliv?

The main aim is to provide participants with a shared analytical framework for understanding organizing as a communicative, cultural, and historically situated process. I mange ph.d.-projekter udgør kvalitativ empiri en central del. Empirien indsamles/produceres på forskellige måder, på forskellige tider og med forskelligt sigte. Ved at blive konfronteret med forskellige ‘skæve’ typer interdisciplinære teoretiske læsninger af ens medbragte empiriske materiale, kan det sætte overraskende tanker i gang og skabe basis for interessante analyser. Getting your research funded: Postdoc │ May 12

This course offers an introduction to the funding landscape as viewed from the perspectives of research leaders, research support advisers, and three early career researchers who have themselves been, or are currently, at the postdoctoral stage. Registration deadline: before May 1, 2026.

Organizationality and Multimodality │ May 28

The PhD course will combine lectures and hands-on analysis workshops to demonstrate how theoretical concepts from organization studies and analytical methods from multimodality studies can be brought together. In doing so, it will focus on the concept of ‘organizationality’, the gradual introduction of elements of formal organization in social collectives held together by shared identities rather than legal arrangements, such as networks, social movements, and platform organizations.
