The PINCH project

The PINCH data is distinguished by combining clinical databases with extensive registry data and questionnaire data on general practitioner characteristics, as well as questionnaire data relating to patient outcomes, preferences, and personality traits. The data includes information across healthcare sectors, which opens up a wide range of interesting research questions. The data is updated continuously every year when new questionnaire data are collected.

The PINCH data includes data on general practice:

  • Questionnaire data on general practice characteristics.
  • Basic information on general practice, including list size, data for opening and closing the list, form of practice, legal form, etc.
  • Practice income divided into basic fees and benefit fees.
  • Information and socio-demographic characteristics of enrolled patients, including the DADI index and requirements for differentiated capitation from 2018 onwards.

The PINCH data includes data on patients:

  • General practitioner (GP)
  • The number of contacts in general practice with the GP and with other doctors. The number is calculated overall, but also subdivided into a number of specific services such as the number of spirometry, blood tests, etc.
  • The number of contacts and costs associated with contacts at hospitals.
  • Indicators for the need for services in general practice (DADI index variables).
  • Indicator for patients with selected chronic diseases (‘RUKS’).
  • Patients' comorbidities calculated in the form of the 'Charlson index' and the 'Elixhauser index', respectively.
  • The number of prescriptions for medication in total and specifically for prescriptions related to diabetes, COPD, etc.
  • Measurements from the clinical quality databases Danish Adult Diabetes Database (DVDD) and from the Danish Registry for Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (DRKOL).

The steering group of the PINCH data:
Associate Professor Anne Sophie Oxholm (Danish Center for Health Economics, Department of Public Health).
Researcher and data analysist Christian Skovsgaard (Danish Center for Health Economics, Department of Public Health).
