Ongoing Projects


Future Freezer Unit (2017-2020)
The project aims to develop a fully automated robotic freezer that can keep track of the growing number of blood, tissue and cell samples in healthcare, which is a consequence of the development of personalized medicine. The freezer should increase patient safety by minimizing the risk of mix-ups. This is achieved by letting the robotic freezer - and not human beings - store and hand out the samples. It is also intended to streamline workflows to free up human resources for other tasks. The freezer should be able to maintain and work at a temperature of minus 86 degrees C which will be on of the project challenges. There is a high potential for robotic freezer systems of this kind in tomorrow's hospitals.
The project is coordinated by the University of Southern Denmark, and the partners are Gram Bioline, FFU ApS, Technical University of Denmark, University of Copenhagen and Dublin City University. Innovation Fund Denmark supports the project with 16 million DKK out of a total budget of 37 million DKK. SAFE (Safe Perception and Behavior in Autonomous Agricultural Machines)
The purpose of this project is to develop safety systems that permit agricultural machines to autonomously handle all significant physical hazards in the agricultural fields. The project is lead by
SDU UAS Centre at The Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute.


The purpose of this project is to build up novel research and knowledge within the field of development and use of welfare and health technologies – by creating interdisciplinary collaboration among end users, research institutions, enterprises, and health professionals. The project is lead by
SDU Health Informatics and Technology at The Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute.


CARMEN (Center for Advanced Robotic Manufacturing Engineering)
The project focuses on new and advanced methods to virtually carrying out all phases of an robotics-based automation process. The project is coordinated by SDU Robotics at The Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute.
