The purpose of DaWS-History is to bring together researchers working on the history of welfare, state, politics, and gender within the larger cross-disciplinary setting in Danish Centre for Welfare Studies (DaWS). Additionally, we aim to establish a vibrant research group within Department for Culture and Languages. Our work spans a broad range of themes, including the history of welfare and public health, gender studies, migration history, family history, and state-building with a focus on the 19th and 20th centuries. We believe that research must be fun and based on methodological pluralism, cross-disciplinary interactions, and curiosity.

Collaboration with Danish Centre for Welfare Studies
DaWS-History is part of the Danish Centre for Welfare Studies (DaWS), established in 2005 as a cross-faculty research center including scholars from the Department of Political Science (Social Science) and the then Department of History, now Department of Culture and Languages (Humanities). DaWS has an international research profile and is renowned for its unique cross-disciplinary profile. The collaboration between historians and political scientists has, over time, also included colleagues from literature studies as well as other disciplines such as economics, anthropology, sociology, philosophy. We aim to continue this path. Consequently, DaWS-History is part of a larger research group consisting of also 10-15 colleagues from Social Science who share interests in welfare, state, politics, and gender.
