Investigating Polyvictimization in Child Abuse Cases

Project title

Investigating Polyvictimization in Child Abuse Cases

Anders Aaby

Project manager

Ida Haahr-Pedersen

Project description

Background:
The extant literature suggests that children and adolescents exposed to one type of abuse are likely to have experienced additional forms of victimization. Exposure to multiple and co-occurring types of victimization (also known as polyvictimization PV) is a strong predictor of adverse psychological outcomes among children and youth. Clinical samples that include a high amount and variation of (poly)victimized children present a unique population within which to further examine the concept of polyvictimization, e.g. by the identification of distinct polyvictimization profiles.

This project will:

  • investigate the role of PV in explaining trauma symptomatology among children and youth who have been assessed in The Danish Children Centres;
  • draw on the PV evidence-base to strengthen future interventions and interdisciplinary collaboration in cases of child abuse

The project is a part of CONTEXT: The COllaborative Network for Training and EXcellence in psychoTraumatology.
