Strategic Foresight for Decision Making

Connect long-term strategic thinking to concrete action under uncertainty.

How do you make strategic decisions when the future is uncertain? The MBA elective Strategic Foresight for Decision Making helps you build a practical Strategic Execution Framework that links foresight, strategic choices, execution, and learning.

Rather than relying on static plans, you will learn how to make robust decisions today while preserving flexibility for tomorrow. Using scenario planning, real options logic, strategy maps, scorecards/OKRs (showing objectives and key results), and strategic experimentation, you will learn how to stress-test strategic choices, translate them into measurable priorities, and adapt as new information emerges.

The course is hands-on and centred on your own organisational challenge.

What you will learn

You will learn how to:

identify critical uncertainties and develop plausible scenarios
distinguish between strategic commitments to make now and options to keep open
translate strategic choices into clear goals, ownership, and metrics
design experiments that test key assumptions and support adaptation

Content and structure

The course is organised around four connected steps:

Foresight: identify critical uncertainties and develop scenarios
• Options: define strategic actions and use real options logic to balance commitment and flexibility
• Execution: translate choices into strategy maps, scorecards, and/or OKRs
• Adaptation: design experiments that test assumptions and support learning

The result is a Strategic Execution Framework tailored to your own organisation.
