Cultural Intelligence (CQ)

Develop the capability to lead effectively across cultures – and turn cultural diversity into strategic advantage.

Cultural Intelligence (CQ) is a core capability for leading effectively across cultures and borders.

Recognised by global executives as one of the most critical leadership competencies, CQ enables leaders to bridge cultural differences, foster collaboration, and drive performance across borders.

This MBA elective strengthens your ability to lead in complex and rapidly changing intercultural contexts.

What You Will Learn

In this course, you will learn to independently analyse, reflect on, and act in cross-cultural leadership situations.

You will establish a personal CQ baseline, apply cultural frameworks, and develop a global leadership competency profile, gaining the tools and self-insight needed to exercise culturally intelligent leadership effectively across national, organisational, and professional cultures.

You will learn to think critically about culture, cultural politics, and the dynamic intersections between diverse cultures.

How the Course Creates Value for Your Organisation

By strengthening your CQ, the course enhances your personal leadership effectiveness, and your organisation’s ability to navigate and succeed in cross-cultural contexts.

Through applied work with your own professional setting, you contribute to:
stronger organisational capability to systematically analyse cultural dynamics and cross-cultural leadership expectations
the alignment of leadership approaches and collaboration practices with the cultural contexts in which the organisation operates
improved organisational performance in global, culturally diverse and dynamic environments

Your Profile

The course is aimed at managers and professionals working in international or culturally diverse environments in private companies and public organisations.

It is particularly relevant for those who lead across borders, manage multicultural teams, work in global functions, or collaborate with international stakeholders.

Content and Structure

The course engages participants around the following interconnected themes:
Foundations of Cultural Intelligence: What is CQ, and how does it relate to multi-level cultural frameworks? How can you assess and develop your own CQ?
CQ in Global Leadership: How do national, organisational, and community-level cultures shape expectations, communication, and leadership practices? How can CQ enhance leadership effectiveness and intercultural collaboration?
Cultural and Leadership Context Analysis: How can you analyse personally and organisationally relevant cultural settings and derive actionable leadership insights?
A critical and Dynamic Approach to Culture: How can we avoid the pitfalls of oversimplified views on culture and embrace the dynamic and multifaceted nature of cultural systems? How do we detect and navigate the politics of culture within and beyond the organisation?
Experiential CQ Learning: Through simulations and applied leadership challenges, you will practice cultural adaptation, reflect on your responses, and translate theory into leadership action.
