Crowdsourcing for cognitive science

Background

In this research project we want to investigate a link between the usage of smartphones and neuropsychological measurement of working memory capacity.

Purpose

The purpose of the project is to measure the effect of smartphone usage on cognition. Attention is a limited neuropsychological resource and the project investigates if cognition and stress are adversely affected as a function of smartphone usage.

Expected results

We use validated neuropsychological tests through crowdsourcing that consist of a number of tests, including go-nogo test, working memory test, stroop test, flanker task etc. to quantitatively extract reliable measurements and relate these to smartphone usage. Earlier studies show that smartphone usage results in reduced attention as measured by questionnaires. We expect to find quantitative targets in neuropsychological tests that correlate the use of smartphones with e.g. working memory and attention.
