Qualification requirements and expectations

Qualification requirements:

The qualification requirements are basically the same as for an ordinary professorship. In addition to these: a master's degree in medicine, specialist recognition (medical specialist). As a general rule, completed main supervisorship for at least one PhD student will be preferred.

Job content:

Supervision, teaching and / or research assignments and examination of students at hospitals that handle teaching in clinical subject areas as well as supervision in research training.

Period of employment:

As a general rule 5 years with the possibility of extension.

Expectations for clinical professor

Research

  • A national/international leading research profile in line with the department's/unit's strategy
  • Experience in building and developing research agendas and communities that are part of the overall strategic development of the department/unit
  • Analytical skills in several sub-areas as well as a documented ability to shape the research agenda in the national/international scientific community
  • A sustained and significant research result in national and international journals and books in accordance with the accepted norm in the field of research
  • Quality of research is crucial and some publications should be published in top journals
  • Scientific articles and book chapters are published in registered series and published according to lists of Bibliometric Research Indicator (BFI), preferably as the first or last author in series and publishers at level 2 or 3
  • Strong presence in national and international networks, research associations and scientific debates
  • A solid track record for successful management of research projects or groups as well as for successful PhD studies and for externally funded projects
  • Experience and success with external funding, and a great potential for successful fundraising of major projects. Main or co-applicant on at least one major grant application per year

Education

  • Extensive experience with teaching at all levels documented by positive student evaluations
  • Extensive experience with supervision and examination of bachelor's and master's students
  • Solid experience with educational management and/or process development and coordination
  • Pedagogical competencies inclusive of SDU’s postgraduate teaching training course
  • Experience in supervising university staff, especially PhD students, postdocs and in teaching
  • By appointment delivers working hours related to teaching
  • Updated teaching portfolio

Service to the community

  • Disseminate research-based knowledge relevant to the public sector, to educational institutions, to industry and business and/or cultural development
  • Documented ability to innovate research dissemination and help others at the department to excel in such activities
  • Proven ability to identify and develop new ways in which a larger group of researchers (preferably across disciplines) can interact with stakeholders and society as a whole to solve societal problems
  • Have a visible leading role in relevant scientific communities nationally and internationally

Administration

  • Participate in department, faculty and university committees (eg employment and development)
  • Member of assessment committees for scientific positions
  • Head of assessment committees for PhD dissertations
  • Evaluation of national and international research groups and institutions
  • Participates in advisory committees, national and international committees and guideline committees
  • General administrative tasks at department level (eg registration, budgeting and financial management)

Personal capacity

  • To be a role model with participation in the department's/unit's social and professional life (meetings, seminars, PhD defenses and other department or university events)
  • To nurture good working relationships with colleagues and be ready to back them up if necessary
  • Motivation for and ability to take leadership in the scientific and pedagogical development as well as the departmental development
  • To be an exponent of the highest scientific standard and knowledge sharing at the department
  • To be engaged in career development and in creating opportunities for younger researchers in projects and other initiatives
  • To be comfortable in a leadership role, which means working much more for the collective than for oneself
