New adjunct professor in diabetes care and nursing
Bodil Rasmussen, Professor at Deakin University, School of Nursing and Midwifery, Australia, has been awarded the honorary title Adjunct Professor at Steno Diabetes Center Odense and Department of Clinical Research, Faculty of Health Sciences, SDU
As of 1 April 2020 until 31 March 2025 Professor Bodil Rasmussen will be affiliated to Steno Diabetes Center Odense and Department of Clinical Research.
She is currently employed as Chair in Nursing at the Western Health-Deakin University Partnership in Australia and will be visiting Denmark to participate in joint research projects, hold lectures and join relevant assessment committees, as well as she will be functioning as supervisor. Bodil Rasmussen states the following about her expectations to the collaboration:
- My expectation is to strengthen the collaboration between Steno Diabetes Center Odense, SDU and Deakin University - Western Health Partnership by building multidisciplinary teams in research in diabetes care, specifically in psychosocial aspects in diabetes and multimorbidity, to foster professional development by collaborative staff and student supervision/ exchange and to facilitate translation of research into clinical practice.
About Professor Bodil Rasmussen
Professor Bodil Rasmussen is a registered nurse and has experience at various clinical units in Denmark and Australia. She has considerable nursing education experience working as both Clinical Educator and as a Lecturer at Deakin University teaching across 1-3rd year Bachelor of Nursing program as well as Master of Nursing Practice in professional issues and chronic/diabetes conditions.
She holds a PhD degree, has worked as Senior Lecturer and Associate Professor in School of Nursing and Midwifery, Deakin University and as Course Director for Graduate Certificate in Diabetes Education and Master of Nursing Practice.
As a Course Director she collaborated with the Australian Diabetes Educator Association and consumer organisation (Diabetes Victoria). Her research program focuses on:
- Empowering people to self-manage their condition by using technologies
- Implementation of research evidence into practice to improve patient outcomes
Professor Rasmussen has a robust track record of excellence in teaching being nominated for the most prestigious national government award: Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning, Office of Learning and Teaching, Australian Government.
In addition, she has been awarded the very competitive Deakin University Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Distinguished Teaching, as well as been awarded the Deakin University Commendation for Excellence in Teaching for seven years.
Professor Rasmussen has established strong links to Scandinavian researchers in diabetes and is a member of the Executive Committee in Scandinavian Translational Research in Chronic Conditions (SCAN-TRICC) Group.
She has a proven record of attracting and successfully supervising PhD, Masters and Honours students. Her expertise in diabetes is demonstrated by being approached by both Australian and overseas universities to examine doctoral, masters and honours theses, the majority within diabetes related topics.
Professor Rasmussen has led multi-disciplinary local and international teams, especially with Scandinavian researchers. She has presented more than 90 national and international papers, including invited key note presentations.
Professor Rasmussen has worked in a variety of clinical, management, education and research roles across a range of public and tertiary health care settings. She is an international leader in diabetes nursing research and education.
The new affiliation will be celebrated with an inaugural seminar later this year.
