War veterans conference

What are the psychological after-effects on soldiers, and what are the best ways to prevent and treat them?

What sort of mental state are Danish troops left with after serving in Afghanistan? What sort of post-combat stress do soldiers suffer, and how much does this vary from person to person? What do we know about the state of war veterans in general, and what is the best way to treat them?

Those are some of the main issues on the agenda at a conference at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense.

Danish Defence and SDU are sponsoring the event

At the conference, researchers from Denmark and abroad will present the latest research into psychological problems and other challenges facing soldiers on their return home.

The event takes place on 10 January, and is sponsored by the Knowledge Centre at the Danish Defence Veterans Centre as well as the National Centre of Psychotraumatology at the University of Southern Denmark.

The Danish Defence Veteran Centre conducts research into aspects including psychological after-effects of combat on veterans.

SDU conducts research into trauma-related disorders

The National Centre of Psychotraumatology at the University of Southern Denmark houses Denmark’s top expertise in the field of trauma-related disorders such as acute stress disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and complex PTSD.
