About the reseach at Sport and Health Sciences

Sport and Health Sciences (SHS) extensively work with movement analysis of various sports and training methods using the latest technologies such as GPS and radio wave-based tracking, as well as invasive methods such as blood and muscle analyses. Additionally, the group often works interdisciplinary, incorporating a psycho-social approach to the projects.

The unit investigates cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, neural (cognitive functions), and psycho/social aspects related to elite sports, recreational sports, and physical activity in primary schools. These topics are examined both in a fundamental research context and through more applied clinical and exercise science research projects.

Research activities within SHS are characterized by frequently bridging basic research with more applied research, including studying mechanisms for the health-promoting effects of physical activity.

SHS also participates in a range of larger research projects conducted in collaboration with internal and external national and international partners. The unit's research activities typically originate from integrated physiology, and the conducted studies often have both applied and clinical relevance.
