Research areas

The Research Unit of Spine Medicine plans and conducts research that is anchored in the clinic and based on clinical issues. We are part of strong national and international research communities, and we actively participate in teaching in the daily clinic and at the university.

The Research Unit of Spine Medicine consists of four senior researchers, including the research leader, as well as four PhD students and one scientific assistant. In addition, the unit has two adjunct professors. The research secretariat consists of a research secretary, a data manager, and a project coordinator.

Our researchers have backgrounds in chiropractic, physiotherapy, and medicine, and are all involved to varying degrees in the Spine Center's medical outpatient clinic, where they are an integral part of the clinical staff. There are continuously 3-4 clinical lecturers among the unit's researchers, and we prioritize the production of 3-6 candidate theses from the Research Unit of Spine Medicine each year.

Our core focus is to plan and conduct research that is anchored in the clinical activities of the Spine Center and based on clinical issues. At the same time, we are part of strong national and international research communities. We also actively participate in teaching students at the Spine Center and at the University of Southern Denmark.

Our goal is to generate high-quality research that is relevant to clinical practice and patients with back pain, under the vision of "The right treatment for the right patient at the right time".

Our research focuses on the following areas:

  • Clinical tests and examinations, including objective functional measurements, pain measurements, and more
  • Cross-sectoral patient pathways
  • Treatment mechanisms
