The Danish Council for Independent Research supports independent research arising from the individual researcher's knowledge and ideas within and across all principal areas of science.
The Danish Council for Independent Research has a range of instruments – from grants for shorter study periods abroad to the establishment of research centres proper. These instruments are announced in an annual call for applications.
The Danish Council for Independent Research comprises five scientific councils, which together cover the entire research landscape:
Humanities
Medical Sciences
Natural Sciences
Social Sciences
Technology and Production Sciences
The Danish Council for Independent Research has harmonised most instruments across the scientific councils, but certain instruments are specifically intended for an individual council and in some cases the framework varies from council to council. You must therefore take particular care if you are writing applications that will be considered in more than one scientific council. The call for applications will clearly state which of the scientific councils make specific demands on applicants.
