Kuheli Dutt is the Assistant Dean for Community Engagement and Student Relations at MIT’s School of Science, where she oversees community engagement, inclusion, and outreach for various groups.
Prior to joining MIT in 2021, Dr. Dutt served as Assistant Director for Academic Affairs and Diversity at Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, overseeing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts.
As a scholar-practitioner with a PhD in public policy from Northeastern University, her research interests lie in implicit bias, gender, race, and LGBTQ+ awareness in STEM.
Dr. Dutt’s research on gender differences in letters of recommendation was published in Nature Geoscience. Dr. Dutt has also co-authored a book, Women in the Geosciences, published by the American Geophysical Union. During her time at Columbia, Dr. Dutt served as the co-chair of the Columbia University Senate Commission on the Status of Women. In addition to Nature Geoscience, Dr. Dutt’s work has been published in Scientific American, The Lancet, and others. Her work has been covered by national and international media venues such as The New York Times; NPR Science Friday; Clear+Vivid with Alan Alda; European Geophysical Union; Nature; Science; Huffington Post; Inside Higher Ed; Physics World; Ars Technica; El Español; and others.
