Formula Student

The competition is separated into parts where the car runs in 4 dynamic events like classical time trials, while static events is expressed as presentations and documentation for a jury. In static events the students compete in technical knowledge, business plan and cost documentation among other things.

History

SDU Vikings have existed since 2007 and is the oldest and one of the biggest student organizations on the technical faculty of SDU. Many of the former team members now possess positions in companies as Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains, Universal Robots and many more.

Organization

The 99 team members of SDU-Vikings are spread among to campuses in Odense and Sønderborg. The team has tripled in size over the course of the last year and the professionality has been increasing a great deal with invested focus in organization, economy and social media. They design, simulate, manufacture, and assemble their racecar from the ground up.

The ongoing and future projects are coordinated on the weekly management meeting, which thereafter is handed over to some of the more experienced members who goes on to put together a team to fulfil the project. This secures the quality of the project and that every SDU-Vikings member is left with responsibilities that corresponds with their skillset at the given time of their education.

About SDU Vikings

The future of SDU Vikings

SDU Vikings still have the full support from The Institute of Engineering at SDU and has been permitted a budget of 50.000 dkk to travel to competitions. This means that the team will be competing at Formula Student United Kingdom 2024 and at the Formula Student Netherlands 2025. The plan is to start a completely new chassis and redesign almost every aspect of Viking XI.

As the rules dictate, a completely new chassis has to be developed every year though FS Netherlands and FS UK lies within the same calendar year. This gives SDU Vikings 2 years to develop a new platform, the Viking XII. Our ultimate goal with Viking XII is to be as competitive as possible at Formula Student Germany 2026.

Training engineers for the industry

SDU Vikings' facilities and network provides opportunities for the coming engineers through bachelor- and master projects to develop their skills in the futures cutting-edge technologies.

Practical experience with electric powertrains, high- and low-voltage system and the isolation in between. Handlings of batteries, motors, motor controllers, inverters and converters. Organizing signal monitoring and programming Battery Management Systems and other.

SDU Vikings gives the students a unique opportunity to put theory into practice.
