QC Introductory Seminar: Quantum computing for life sciences and sustainability

In this talk, I will introduce the NNF Quantum Computing Programme (NQCP) at the University of Copenhagen and its mission to enable the development of fault-tolerant quantum computing with applications in the life sciences, chemistry, and sustainability. I will then provide a overview of quantum computing for molecular and materials science, highlighting which chemical problems remain particularly challenging for classical computation, why these problems may benefit from quantum computations, and how molecular systems can be encoded and simulated on quantum hardware. Finally, I aim to provide a concise perspective on the evolution of the field—from early conceptual proposals to today’s emerging algorithms—and outline the key opportunities and open questions that shape the current landscape of quantum computational chemistry.

These seminars are primarily intended for Master's students, especially those in Quantum Computing programs, but everyone is welcome to attend.
