When defining the strategic direction for our research we take into consideration how we can contribute to resolve the problems addressed by the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
The SDGs are not necessarily explicit in the mission and the activities of the Section, but education and research activities are defined against this framework as indicated in the following examples of aspects pertaining to buildings, architecture, and the built environment.
Here is an overview of the goals that we support
Good Health
Our research focuses on how to build Healthy Buildings, such as improving Indoor Environmental Quality. Put in another way, we want to build Cities for People. In this way, we support SDG #3.
Clean Energy
Some of our research focuses on Building-integrated sustainable energy production, thereby supporting SDG #7.
Responsible Consumption
We also focus on Circular economy and sustainable building design including energy efficiency, thereby contributing to SDG #12.
Quality Education
At SDU Civil and Architectural Engineering we provide engineers with knowledge and skills to deal with Future Challenges and Opportunities, thereby supporting SDG #4. In addition, our research area Urban Resilience focuses on causes and effects of climate change in cities strengthens social sustainability in developing regions.
Innovation and Infrastructure
With a specific focus on Construction 4.0 and a green transition of the construction sector, our research also contributes to SDG #9.
Protect the Planet
We try to integrate knowledge about Responsible use and reuse of resources as well as environmentally conscious design, construction, and operation of buildings and infrastructure, thereby supporting SDG #13.
Clean Water and Sanitation
In our research within the area of Urban Resilience and engineered built environments, we aim at improving building services and infrastructure, thereby supporting SDG #6.
Sustainable Cities and Communities
By conducting research within the area of Urban Resilience and high performance buildings through engineering and integrated design we contribute to SDG #11.
Partnerships for the Goals
With our Industry Partnerships, collaborative research, UNESCO Chair on Urban Resilience, engagement in platforms for dissemination of knowledge and application of research we also cover SDG #17.
