Bridging Course
Build a solid foundation in philosophy of science, epidemiology and biostatistics – and get ready to start the MSc in Public Health Science. This course prepares you especially for the modules Applied Biostatistics and Advanced Epidemiology, and gives you the tools to confidently understand and assess research findings.
Develop the right skills before starting your master’s degree
You’ll learn how to read and analyse scientific articles, interpret statistical results and understand key concepts in epidemiology and biostatistics. The course equips you to work with quantitative data and helps you keep pace with advanced academic teaching from day one.
Focus on methodology, measurements and research assessment
You will gain insight into:
- The most commonly used study designs and epidemiological concepts
- Calculation of basic epidemiological measures
- Biostatistical concepts and when to use them
- Critical appraisal of articles, focusing on the risk of bias and confounding
From data to interpretation and evaluation
The course gives you hands-on experience in analysing small datasets and identifying patterns. You’ll learn how to interpret statistical results and understand what they mean in a research context – both in terms of methodology and significance.
Aim and content of the course
The course prepares you for the methodological subjects in the MSc programme by providing knowledge of philosophy of science, epidemiology and biostatistics. You’ll develop basic skills in analysing, understanding and evaluating quantitative research and statistical results in public health science contexts.
