Bachelor of EngineeringMechanical Engineering
- 3½ years (7 semesters)
- Odense campus
- Taught in Danish
- Includes a 6-month internship
A practice-oriented engineering programme focusing on the development, design and application of mechanical systems. From your first semester you work in a project group on problems taken from real companies, and a full semester is spent on an internship in Denmark or abroad. After 3½ years you are ready for the job market – or you can continue to the Master’s programme.

- 3 years (6 semesters)
- Odense campus
- Taught in Danish
Build a strong foundation in mechanics, materials, thermodynamics and engineering design. You work in project groups on company-based problems from the first semester, and in Odense you can focus the programme towards structural design, fluid mechanics or robot mechanics. It is built to continue directly into the Master’s programme.

Mechanical Engineering
- 2 years (4 semesters)
- Odense campus
- Taught in Danish
Go deeper into materials, design methods and analysis tools – continuum mechanics, advanced finite element analysis, structural optimisation, rotor dynamics, stability and vibrations. You learn to model and simulate everything from hearing aids to robots to large wind turbine structures, and the degree gives you direct access to a PhD.

Bachelor of Engineering is the fastest route into an engineering job: 3½ years including a full internship semester.
Bachelor of Science is the academic route – the first three years of a five-year path, designed to continue directly into the Master’s programme.
The Master’s programme builds on either a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Engineering, and opens the door to a PhD.
All three programmes are built around project work in groups, on problems taken from companies, from the very first semester.
Looking for a programme taught in English
The three programmes above are taught in Danish. SDU also offers a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering taught entirely in English at the Sønderborg campus, covering energy systems, refrigeration technology, material characterisation and industrial structures.

With a Master’s degree, you can continue into a PhD at SDU Mechanical Engineering, either as a university PhD student or as an industrial PhD in collaboration with a company. Our PhD projects follow the research carried out in our research section, and PhD students are part of the same laboratories and project teams as our researchers.
After graduation
Graduates from our programmes work as development and design engineers, project managers, consultants and researchers in companies that build medical technology, industrial equipment, energy systems and robotics. Others continue into a university PhD or an industrial PhD, or start their own engineering business.
Throughout the programmes you work on cases and projects with companies, so you build a professional network before you graduate.
