Before you apply

Get informed before applying

Admission requirements include your educational background, language requirements, required documentation, and SDU's admission test (uniTEST).

If you are unsure if your educational background qualifies for admission, you can request a pre-assessment from 1 October to 15 November the year before you apply.

If you are from a country outside of the EU/EEA, you are required to pay tuition fees. Tuition fees depend on the bachelor’s programme you apply for.

If you are an EU/EEA citizen, you do not pay tuition fees.

SDU offers a limited number of scholarships for highly qualified non-EU/non-EEA applicants on selected programmes and campuses.

You do not apply separately for a scholarship. If you apply for a bachelor’s programme that offers scholarships, you will automatically be considered for scholarship as part of the application process.

How to apply and pay application fee

Between 1 February -15 March, you can submit your application through the Danish national application system optagelse.dk. See below how to apply, what to upload and what to be aware of when submitting your application.

If you are a non-EU/EEA citizen, you must pay an application deposit fee of 200 EUR before submitting your application. You only pay the fee once regardless of how many programmes you apply for within the same year.

You must upload the payment receipt via the Danish national application system optagelse.dk by the application deadline 15 March at 12 noon.

If you have already paid the application deposit fee in connection with a pre-assessment, you do not need to pay it again.

After you apply

While you wait

Once you have submitted your application, follow the process via SDU’s admission system, sdu.dk/admission. Here you will receive invitations, upload any missing documents and accept your student place.

When you have submitted your application, you will receive information and notifications via the self-service system, sdu.dk/admission.

You will receive an email with login details for the self-service system when SDU has received your application from optagelse.dk.

On sdu.dk/admission, you can:

  • track the status of your application.
  • read messages from SDU.
  • get information about admission tests.
  • read the decision on your application on 28 July.
  • accept or decline an offer of admission.

If you are an EU/EEA citizen, your application for admission is assessed:

  • on your grades if your qualifications can be converted to the Danish grading system.
  • via SDU's admission test (uniTEST).

This means:

  • EU/EEA citizens whose grades can be converted are assessed on grade point average (GPA).
  • EU/ EEA citizens whose grades cannot be converted will receive an invitation to uniTEST and are assessed based on the test results.

However, even if your grades can be converted, SDU recommends that you take the uniTEST regardless. If you take uniTEST, you will be assessed based on both your grades and your test results, which improves your chances of admission.

If you are a citizen of a country outside of the EU/EEA, you will be invited to uniTEST because your grades cannot be converted to the Danish grading system.

The uniTEST measures your general study skills such as problem-solving, critical thinking and text comprehension. It does not test subject-specific knowledge.

All information about uniTEST – including your invitation, registration and test date will be sent via sdu.dk/admission.

If you did not upload all required documentation when submitting your application before 15 March, SDU's Admission Team will contact you via SDU's self-service system sdu.dk/admission and inform you what documentation is missing.

You must upload the final documents via optagelse.dk

This typically applies if you:

  • complete your upper secondary education during the summer.
  • take supplementary courses or language tests after applying.
