Create interactive technologies that make a positive impact
The BSc in Game Development and Learning Technology at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) is a unique engineering programme that combines software development, game design, interaction design, AI, and learning technologies. You will learn to design and build games, apps, VR/AR experiences, interactive physical systems, and intelligent learning tools - all grounded in user needs and real‑world challenges.
This is the only bachelor‑level games‑focused engineering degree in Denmark, and one of the few internationally that blends technical engineering, creative design, and educational technology in one programme.
Why choose this programme?
Human + Technology
You become an expert in understanding how people interact with technology. You learn to design solutions that are motivating, meaningful, and engaging - whether for entertainment, training, health, or education.
Hands‑on, Project‑Driven Learning
Each semester includes a major design and development project. You work in teams, build prototypes, test your ideas with real users, and learn professional workflows used in the games and tech industries.
Future‑proof technical skills - including AI
AI is integrated throughout the degree from the very first semester. You learn to use generative AI tools, machine‑learning‑based workflows, and AI‑assisted development that reflect current and emerging industry needs.
A broad and relevant skillset
Your profile spans programming, game design, UX, hardware, AI, interactive systems, and project management. This gives you career flexibility across many fields - and makes you resilient to rapid technological change.
International research and industry environment
Teaching is delivered by active researchers and industry practitioners from SDU’s Metaverse Lab, who work in areas such as virtual reality, AI‑driven development, human–computer interaction, and serious games.
A supportive, inclusive study environment
We emphasise teamwork, well‑being, and belonging. You will work in collaborative teams every semester, gaining experience in communication, planning, leadership, and cross‑cultural cooperation.
What you will learn
You develop strong competencies across several domains:
Game design, programming, and graphics
Using engines such as Unity and Unreal, including the newest AI‑based extensions for content generation, testing, and automation.
Virtual & Augmented Reality (XR)
Designing immersive 3D experiences for entertainment, learning, simulation, health, and training.
Learning technologies & didactic design
Exploring how technology can support learning, motivation, and behavioural change.
Hardware & physical prototyping
Building interactive physical systems, robots, installations, and playful artefacts.
User experience & interaction design
Conducting user research, prototyping interfaces, and evaluating usability and experience.
Web & app development
Developing interactive applications across devices and platforms.
Agile development processes
Using SCRUM and other industry‑standard methods to manage software projects.
Communication & project management
Leading teams, planning development cycles, and presenting your work professionally.
Programme structure
The three‑year programme (180 ECTS) is organised around six semester themes:
1st semester - Game Programming
Programming foundations and development of simple interactive games and prototypes.
2nd semester - Game Design
Design methods, game mechanics, prototyping, testing, and iteration.
3rd semester - Human–System Interaction
Understanding how people think, feel, and act when using technology; UX and user research.
4th semester - Game‑Based Learning & AI‑Based Development
Designing playful learning systems and using AI‑driven methods for generation, adaptation, and analytics.
5th semester - Web Development & Embedded Systems
Developing web applications and working with hardware‑near systems, sensors, and interactive devices.
6th semester - Production & Project Management
Professional development processes, large‑scale teamwork, and the final bachelor project.
