Early admission

If you have a documented functional impairment, you may apply for early admission to a bachelor’s programme at SDU.

Early admission gives you an early response, which can help you plan Special Educational Support (SPS), explore accessibility options on campus, and prepare other practical matters ahead of the academic year.

Early admission is optional and does not replace the regular admission process.

How early admission works

Step by step

Early admission follows a fixed process with specific eligibility criteria, documentation requirements and deadlines. Below, you can see who can apply, how to apply, what documentation is required, how SDU assesses applications, and when you will receive a reply.

You can apply for early admission if all of the following apply to you:

  • You have a documented disability
  • You meet all educational and language admission requirements by 1 May
  • You apply for early admission to your first-priority bachelor’s programme

Please note: Applicants who are still completing their qualifying examination or supplementary courses after 1 May are not eligible for early admission.

How you apply depends on how your application is assessed.

If your application is assessed via uniTEST

International applicants whose qualifications cannot be converted to the Danish grading system.

You must:

  • submit your application for admission via optagelse.dk by 15 March at 12 noon (CET)
  • complete and submit SDU’s early admission application form via SDU's self-service system SPOC by 1 May
  • upload all required documentation to the form in SPOC

If your application is assessed on grades

EU/EAA applicants whose qualifications can be converted to the Danish grading system.

You must:

  • submit your application for admission via optagelse.dk by 15 March at 12 noon (CET)
  • complete and submit SDU’s early admission application form via SDU's self-service system SPOC by 1 May
  • upload all required documentation to the form in SPOC

To be considered for early admission, you must upload documentation that confirms your disability and explains how it affects your studies.

Examples of relevant documentation include:

  • Dyslexia test or specialist assessment related to dyscalculia
  • Medical certificate or specialist statement documenting a physical or mental disability
  • Doctor’s notes from Sundhed.dk

Documentation must generally include:

  • Your name and date of birth
  • A clear diagnosis or description of your condition
  • A brief description of any treatment you are receiving
  • A description of how the condition affects your ability to complete an education
  • Date of issue
  • Name, institution, registration number and signature/stamp of the professional

For documentation from Sundhed.dk, the URL address must be included. SDU may ask for documentation to be translated into English by a certified translator.

Any costs related to obtaining documentation are your own responsibility.

SDU can offer early admission if:

  • You have submitted relevant and sufficient documentation confirming your disability
  • SDU assesses that you are likely to be admitted to the programme, either
    • based on your grade point average, if your qualifications are assessed on grades, or
    • based the result of the admission test (uniTEST)
  • You have applied for early admission to your first-priority programme

If you accept an offer of early admission and do not change your programme priorities, you can rely on the offer when planning your studies.

You will receive a response to your early admission application via sdu.dk/admission by 30 June.

  • If you are offered early admission, you must accept the offer by 5 July
  • Like all other applicants, you will receive a final admission decision on 28 July
  • You must confirm your study place according to the instructions after the final decision

If you are granted early admission and accept the offer, SDU’s SPS administration will contact you to help you apply for Special Educational Support (SPS) before the start of your studies. Please note that early admission does not automatically grant SPS, and support can only begin once your studies start.

Early admission and Special Educational Support (SPS)

If you are granted early admission and accept the offer, SDU’s SPS administration will contact you to help you apply for Special Educational Support (SPS) well in advance of the start of your studies. This allows time to prepare the necessary support arrangements.

Please note that:

  • Early admission does not automatically grant SPS
  • SPS support can only be initiated once you have started your studies
