I have studied before

If you have studied a bachelor's programme before, special rules apply to your application process.

What you have to do to apply depends on:

  • Have you completed the first year of studies?
  • Were you studying at SDU or another university?
  • Do you wish to apply to the same or a different programme?

Choose the right scenario for you below and find the rules and guidelines for your situation.

Overview

Choose your situation

Depending on your situation and what you wish to do, there are different processes and deadlines to observe.

Do you wish to:

You can apply for re-admission if you want to start the same programme at SDU again, but you have not completed the entire first year. You must have been withdrawn from the programme for at least 5 months before the new study start. It is not a requirement that you have been withdrawn from the programme for at least 5 months if you are still enrolled in the programme at another Danish university and are not about to be withdrawn but want to continue the programme at SDU.

How to apply for re-admission

You apply for re-admission through the regular admission process. You must meet the entry requirements of the programme when you apply.

Deadlines for application

Apply for re-admission via the Danish application system optagelse.dk. by 15 March at 12 noon (CET).

You can apply from 1 February. You will receive a response to your application by 28 July.

Remember to upload documentation of your previous studies if you are enrolled at another Danish university. If you are a student at SDU we already have your information.

Study conditions

If your application to the programme is accepted, SDU will determine if your previous examination attempts in courses that you have not passed must follow you to your new enrolment. SDU will also determine your other study conditions, including programme regulations, credit transfer and duration of study.

If you can get a credit transfer for the entire first year of studies, you must instead apply for re-enrolment. If you are in doubt whether you can get a credit transfer for the first year of studies, it is a good idea to apply for both re-admission and re-enrolment

You can apply for re-enrolment if you have completed the entire first year of the same programme as it is structured at SDU and you have been withdrawn from the programme for at least 5 months before the new study start.

You must meet the admission requirements of the programme and there must be a vacant study place in the programme. If you were withdrawn from the programme by the university, you must explain and document how you have improved your chances of completing the programme.

How to apply for re-enrolment

You do not apply through the regular application system.

Deadlines for application

  • 1 March for study start in September: You can apply from 1 January. You will receive a response to your application by 1 August.
  • 1 November for study start in February: You can apply from 1 October. You will receive an answer to your application by 20 December.

Apply as early as possible. Applications are processed on an ongoing basis and vacant student places are allocated as applications are processed. Remember to attach the necessary documentation.

Study conditions

If you are re-enrolled in the programme, SDU will determine if your previous examination attempts in courses that you have not passed must follow you to your new enrolment. SDU will also determine your other study conditions, including programme regulations, credit transfer and duration of study.

If you cannot get a credit transfer for the entire first year of studies, you must instead apply for re-admission. If you are in doubt whether you can get a credit transfer for the first year of studies, it is a good idea to apply for both re-admission and re-enrolment.

You can apply for change of programme if you are currently enrolled in a bachelor's programme at a Danish university and want to switch to another academically related bachelor’s programme. Your completed courses must correspond to the first year of the programme at SDU you want to switch to.

The first year of the programme must be passed before the study start which means that you can apply for a change of study even though you pass your last exams from the first year in the exam period prior to the study start.

You must meet the admission requirements of the programme and there must be a vacant study place in the programme.

If you do not expect to be able to get a credit transfer for the first year of studies, you must instead apply for regular admission to the programme. If you are admitted to the programme, apply for starting credits. If you are in doubt whether you can get a credit transfer for your first year of studies, it is a good idea to apply for both regular admission and change of programme.

How to apply for change of programme

You do not apply through the regular application system. Instead you apply through SDU's self-service system, DANS.

Deadlines for application

  • 1 March for study start in September: You can apply from 1 January. You will receive a response to your application by 1 August.
  • 1 November for study start in February: You can apply from 1 October. You will receive an answer to your application by 20 December.

Apply as early as possible. Applications are processed on an ongoing basis and vacant study places are allocated as applications are processed. Remember to attach the necessary documentation.

Change of main subject/profile or elective subjects

If you want to change your 'elective subjects/minor subjects' or switch from a 'one-subject' to a 'two-subject' study programme or vice versa within the first three weeks of the part of the programme you want to switch from, you can send your request via SPOC.

If you want to change 'profile' or 'main subject' within the same programme after the first three weeks, you should apply to your study board for permission to change.

Switch from part-time programme to the same programme full-time

You must apply for admission again if you wish to switch from part-time programme to the same programme full-time – no matter how many courses you have passed.

If your application is accepted, you must subsequently apply for starting credits for the courses you passed in the part-time programme.

You can apply for transfer if you are currently enrolled in the same bachelor's programme at another Danish university than SDU and have completed courses equivalent to the first year of the study programme at SDU. Transfer is not possible from universities outside Denmark.

You must meet the admission requirements of the programme and there must be a vacant study place in the programme.

If you do not expect to be able to get a credit transfer for the first year of studies, you must instead apply for regular admission to the programme. If you are admitted to the programme, apply for starting credits. If you are in doubt whether you can get a credit transfer for your first year of studies, it is a good idea to apply for both regular admission and transfer.

If you are studying at a university abroad, you must always apply for a new admission to the programme – no matter how many courses you have passed. If you are admitted, you must subsequently apply for a credit transfer for the courses you have already passed.

How to apply for transfer

You do not apply through the regular application system. Instead you apply through SDU's self-service system, DANS.

Deadlines for application
  • 1 March for study start in September:You can apply from 1 January. You will receive a response to your application by 1 August.

Apply as early as possible. Applications are processed on an ongoing basis and vacant student places are allocated as applications are processed. Remember to attach the necessary documentation.

Study conditions

If you are transferred to SDU, SDU will determine if your previous examination attempts in courses that you have not passed must follow you to your new enrollment. SDU will also determine your other study conditions, including programme regulations, credit transfer and duration of study.

Special rules for Pharmacy

If you are studying Pharmacy at another Danish university and want to switch to SDU, you must apply for re-admission via the regular admission process.

The Pharmacy programme at SDU includes a special first-year project during the first semester, and for that reason you cannot get a credit transfer.

You can apply for starting credits if you want to have your courses from another study programme recognised to replace courses in your new programme.

You cannot apply for starting credits in advance.

How to apply for starting credits

  • Apply for admission to the new programme via the regular admission process through the system optagelse.dk.
  • In the application, you must state that you are or have been enrolled in another study programme.
  • If your application for admission is accepted, you can apply for starting credits through your programme. You will receive instructions after admission.

It is not possible to get an assessment of credit transfer options in advance.
