Education

Education from SDU Civil and Architectural Engineering is research based.

Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering

The Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering has a strong practical and project-based focus. It combines engineering theory with hands-on application and an understanding of how construction and infrastructure projects are planned, developed and delivered.

Throughout the programme, you will work with structural engineering, construction processes, infrastructure, and climate adaptation, while learning how to turn technical knowledge into solutions that work in practice. The programme includes a mandatory internship in Denmark or abroad, giving you the opportunity to apply your skills in a professional setting and work on real-world engineering challenges.

After three and a half years, you will have developed not only strong technical engineering competencies, but also valuable practical experience and insight into industry practices, preparing you for a professional career in the construction and civil engineering sector.

Graduates typically pursue careers as consulting engineers, project managers, site managers, or structural engineers. You may also continue your studies on the MSc in Civil Engineering and Design.

Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and Design

The BSc in Civil Engineering and Design provides a strong theoretical and analytical foundation in engineering, with a particular focus on the built environment. The programme combines mathematics and the natural sciences with engineering methods in areas such as structural engineering, building physics, digital modelling, sustainability and design.

Through project-based learning, students address complex engineering challenges by applying theory, analytical methods and digital tools to develop and evaluate design solutions. The programme also emphasises the relationship between a building’s technical and architectural qualities, as well as the environmental and societal contexts in which it exists.

Closely linked to SDU’s research environments, the programme introduces students to research-based methods and the latest developments in construction and design. At the same time, it provides a solid foundation for further specialisation through the MSc in Civil Engineering and Design.

Master of Science in Civil Engineering and Design

The MSc in Civil Engineering and Design enables you to specialise and work at an advanced academic level on the development of future solutions for the construction and civil engineering sector. Building on a strong engineering foundation, the programme is closely connected to SDU’s research activities in areas such as structural engineering, sustainability, digitalisation and emerging technologies.

You may choose to specialise in structural engineering or focus on areas such as computational design, digital fabrication and robotics in construction.

Through research, project work and collaboration with relevant professional and academic environments, you will engage with complex challenges and apply the latest knowledge and technologies to create innovative and practical solutions.

A Shared Foundation Across the Programmes

Although the three programmes have different profiles and objectives, they share a common ambition: to educate engineers who can help address the major challenges facing the construction and infrastructure sector.

Climate change, the demand for more sustainable construction, digitalisation, new materials and increased automation are transforming the way we plan, design and build.

For this reason, all programmes are founded on a combination of engineering excellence, project-based learning, research and professional practice.

This approach enables students to develop a strong understanding of fundamental engineering principles while working with the research and technologies that will shape the built environment of the future.
