DIAS Event with Kevin Hjortshøj O'Rourke: The New Mercantilism

This lecture will provide some historical perspective on the rise of protectionism in today’s world, drawing on evidence from the mercantilist period of the early modern period, as well as the 19th and 20th centuries. 

About the speaker 
Kevin Hjortshøj O'Rourke is a Director of Research at the CNRS and a Professor of Economics at Sciences Po Paris. He is a Research Fellow at the CEPR, where he previously served as a founding Director of the Economic History programme, and as Research Director. Kevin received his PhD from Harvard in 1989, holds an honorary doctorate from the University of Southern Denmark, and was previously the Chichele Professor of Economic History at All Souls College, Oxford. He is currently an Editor of the Economic History Review. His own research is focussed on the history of globalization and deglobalization.
