Create technical solutions within Chemistry and Biotechnology

Do you want to create technical solutions, develop products and processes and research new technology within Chemistry and Biotechnology? Then a degree in Chemistry and Biotechnology might be something for you.

Future chemistry and biotechnology engineers are central to the development of a sustainable society, where the green climate-friendly production of basic chemicals, medicinal products, and food, is central. The engineering programme in Chemistry and Biotechnology is all about developing and producing products in the industry. For example, it may be your job to ensure that basic chemicals, food, medicines, enzymes, catalysts, or fuel are developed and produced with modern technology that ensures low CO2 emissions, low environmental impact, and low energy consumption.

With a degree in Chemistry and Biotechnology, you will be trained to create technical solutions, develop products and processes, research new technology and work innovatively in collaboration with others.

What will I learn?

With a degree in Chemistry and Biotechnology, you will gain competencies to be able to design, plan and optimise process plants and products, develop, and validate analytical measurement methods, participate in professional and interdisciplinary collaboration, handle consulting tasks and much more.

In the programme, you will learn about inorganic, organic and analytical chemistry, applied mathematics and physics, biochemistry and microbiology, chemical and biochemical processes and technologies, process and product design.

The first four semesters of the programme are the same for BEng students in Chemical Engineering and BSc students in Chemistry and Biotechnology. Here you will gain basic knowledge of the work of a chemistry and biotechnology engineer. You will also get to work in a laboratory with analytical or technical tasks.

How is the programme structured?

The programme consists of a combination of theoretical courses and practical project work. Each semester is based on a main theme, which becomes the basis for the semester's theory and project work.

In the first semester, the focus is on chemical production and the environment. The second semester is all about energy and materials. In the third semester, the focus is on biotechnological processes and chemical unit operations. In the fourth semester, the focus is on instrumental analytical methods, statistical methods, method validation and good laboratory practice. In the fifth semester, the focus is on entrepreneurship and innovation, and you work with fellow students from other fields of study. You can also choose to study this semester at a foreign university. In the sixth semester, you will write your bachelor project, based on all your knowledge from the previous semesters.

Master's Degree

The bachelor's programme lasts three years, after which you take the two-year master's programme to achieve a MSc in Engineering. Here you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the subject areas that interest you.

What can I become?

The programme gives you several career opportunities - both in Denmark and abroad. You can, for example, work with research and development, production, and quality control in chemical companies, in the food and pharmaceutical industries. With a degree in Chemistry and Biotechnology, you can, for example, get a job as a project manager, laboratory manager, development engineer, analyst, quality manager, researcher, consultant, or teacher. You can also continue your studies with a 3-year research programme, which leads to a PhD degree.

That is why you should study...

  • You will gain exciting chemical and biotechnological knowledge
  • You will have good career opportunities
  • You will learn how to develop innovative solutions to specific problems
