Entry requirements
To apply for the Master's programme in Public Health, you need a relevant Bachelor's degree. You can apply if you hold one of the following degrees:
- Public Health from SDU - gives you a legal claim for admission
The following Bachelor’s and professional Bachelor’s degrees meet the admission requirements if they contain a minimum of 7.5 ECTS within epidemiology and biostatistics – or if they complete the SDU Bridging course after admission:
- Medicine from Danish universities
- Biomechanics from University of Southern Denmark
- Sports Science from Danish universities
- Dentistry from Aarhus University or University of Copenhagen
- Biomedicine from Danish universities
- Pharmacy from University of Southern Denmark or University of Copenhagen
- Health Promotion and Health Strategy from Roskilde University
- Psychology from Danish universities
- Nursing from Danish university colleges
- Physiotherapy from Danish university colleges
- Occupational therapy from Danish university colleges
- Radiography from Danish university colleges
- Nutrition and Health from Danish university colleges
- Midwife from Danish university colleges
- Biomedical laboratory technician from Danish university colleges
- Global Nutrition and Health from VIA University College and University College Copenhagen
- Teacher with physical education as a main subject
- Another Bachelor’s or professional Bachelor’s degree, which contains the following subject areas:
- Minimum of 3 ECTS in Health-related research methods (e.g., quantitative, and qualitative methods)
- Minimum of 5 ECTS in one or more of the following subject areas:
- Health related topics (e.g., health promotion, health behavior, health promotion, public health, and pathology, health interventions, digital health, health risks)
- Health system (e.g., health economics, public health administration, global health)
When you have applied, the university will evaluate whether your degree meets the admission requirements.
English language requirements
The programme is taught in English. If your Bachelor’s degree is not from SDU, you are required to submit proof of your proficiency in English. See the English language requirements.
Ranking criteria
This programme has a limited number of study places. Applicants with a legal claim for admission are admitted first. If the number of qualified applicants exceeds the number of available study places, the remaining places are allocated between two sorting groups, non-fee-paying and fee-paying applicants. All applicants are assessed according to the following ranking criteria.
Key subject areas (60%). For each of the below subject areas included in your qualifying Bachelor’s degree 1 point is given:
- Minimum 1 course of minimum 3 ECTS in quantitative analysis (biostatistics, statistics, mathematics)
- Minimum 1 course of minimum 3 ECTS in epidemiology
- Minimum 1 course of minimum 3 ECTS in qualitative methods
- Minimum 1 course of minimum 3 ECTS in health promotion/health education/behavioral sciences
- Minimum 1 course of minimum 3 ECTS in biology/physiology/medicine
Points for average mark is multiplied by 0,4 and points for key subject areas is multiplied by 0,6. The two are then added to form a total score. Study places are offered to the applicants who receive the highest total score.
Supplementing your degree
It is possible to supplement your Bachelor's or professional Bachelor's degree with SDU's Bridging course to fulfill the requirement of 7.5 ECTS in epidemiology and biostatistics. The course must be completed after admission and before study start.

Please note in relation to admission for vacant study places: After 15. July, you can only be admitted if you fulfil all requirements without having to follow the bridging course.
As a Bachelor student at SDU, you can apply for permission to follow up to 30 ECTS Master-level courses even though you have yet to complete your Bachelor’s degree.
You can be granted permission if you have the necessary academic qualifications. The progression of your Bachelor’s programme is crucial to the outcome of your application.

Have you completed a Master’s programme?
If you’ve already obtained a Master’s degree, you can only be admitted to a new Master’s programme if there are vacant study places in the programme.

As long as you do not hold a Master’s degree, you are free to apply for admission to a new programme.
