The SDU Metaverse Lab is an interdisciplinary research, academic and impact-generating organisation. Unconstrained by disciplines, the Metaverse Lab brings together engineers, scientists, designers, artists, and practitioners to create experiences and technologies that enable people to shape and engage with the future - in an environment designed for collaboration and technology transfer.

Our research is driven by a single aim: delivering science and technology for the benefit of society at scale. We focus on three interconnected themes: Human–AI Interaction, developing AI systems that work alongside people - from swarm-based hospital logistics to emotion-aware computing and game twins for awareness and resilience; Digital and Technical Literacy, preparing children, students, and educators for the digital transformation of the labour market through STEM programmes, teaching materials, and AI-powered educational tools; and Health and Wellbeing Technology, building computational methods that improve how healthcare is delivered - from structuring clinical conversations with AI to game-based therapeutics and diagnostics. Across all three, we work closely with industry, healthcare, defence, and public-sector partners.

Our faculty lead the Game Development and Learning Technologies programme, where students develop the deep technical and design skills that form the crucial link between back-end engineering and the people who use information systems. Our alumni carry these competencies across the Creative Industries and beyond.
