Rie Troelsen

Rie TroelsenMy name is Rie Troelsen, and I am Head of SDU CTL.

I am educated in the field of science education, but I have done research and taught in university teaching and learning in general for many years.

I am particularly interested in the importance of the physical learning space in relation to learning, supervision, evaluation of teaching and study management.

When I offer assistance in terms of supervision it could be in the shape of courses regarding the roles and relations of the supervisor. During the course, which is a half-day presence-course with specific preparatory assignments, we discuss ways to balance expectations between supervisor and students, how to use different strategies to control the supervision, as well as how different types of questions can promote the student’s independence. I consider both the balancing of expectations, supervision strategies and questioning techniques as tools to help the supervisor help the student to make qualified decisions. I also offer to hold the course locally in groups of teachers or at staff seminars.

I am also program leader for a national course for educational leaders that takes place twice a year. In the spring semester, Christian Brandt, Associate Professor at the Department for Oto-Rhyno-Laryngology and Head of Studies for the Audiology study programme, participated in the course:

"I found the course very useful”. Furthermore, he is soon to attend a professional day for SDU teachers, which will include various presentations and possibilities for sparring. He mentions sparring and reflections in particular as important elements in SDUUP’s work: “I view it as a strategic competence development of teachers that is very useful because it involves possibilities of exchanging experiences and of knowledge sharing. Therefore, I am very happy to use what SDUUP offers.”
