Gitte Rasmussen is a professor with special responsibilities in research of social practices and cognition. She holds a PhD in social interaction and chairs RESEMINA along with Thomas Hestbæk Andersen.
Research areas
Gitte primarily carries out ethnomethodological and conversation analytic (EMCA) studies of social face-to-face conduct in institutional and organizational settings. The settings range from business and clinical to everyday environments such as fitness centres. Her research interest concern how human beings socially organise actions and practices through which they locally indicate social and cultural values, concepts, and categories – broadly speaking, their common understanding of the social world.
As part of their actions and practices human beings draw upon a variety of resources and materials, such as talk, body movements, gestures, gaze and material objects, including digital objects and robots. Gitte’s research also concerns how human beings coordinate and organise such resources and materials for action production.
Activities
Gitte has a wide international research network as she is a member of advisory boards in international research projects. She is a PhD and post.doc supervisor and a member of scientific PhD-committees. Moreover, she reviews articles for international research journals, and she has written numerous articles and book chapters.
