This study has identified the Danish utilization potential of excess heat for district heating and assessed the current legislation when utilizing excess heat. A model calculating the utilization potential have been created and used for an understanding of its future role in an industry and commercial energy flow diagram for year 2035 and 2050. The assessment of the current legislation has been carried out through levelized and society’s cost of utilizing excess heat and producing heat for district heating.
In the end the thesis proposes changes in legislation and taxes which will create incentives for utilization of excess heat.
