Sensor workshop - theory and practice or lecture

This workshop gives high school students an insight into the world of sensors, typical sensor configurations and circuits. Thereby they will be able to translate this knowledge into practical experience by assembling a simple circuit for a thermistor and performing some simple temperature measurements using the design setup.

Prerequisites for the workshop

Students should preferably have a basic knowledge of Ohm's law (will be reviewed briefly), electrical current and voltage measurements, resistors and amplifiers. In addition, they must be able to use a multimeter and have knowledge of and be able to use Excel.
The workshop may be conducted in English, as several of our engineering students are international students. Therefore, knowledge of the concepts in English will be an advantage.

Learning objectives

  • Electrical current, voltage and resistance
  • Sensor configuration and circuit construction
  • Performing temperature measurements and processing data
  • Ohm's law

No fixed dates.

The exact date will be determined in consultation with you. However, it is crucial to find a time when our students are ready to hold the workshop for you. We always do our best to accommodate your date preferences.

Contact us well in advance (at least 1-2 months before). This will allow us to find a date and put together a programme that best meets your wishes for the visit.
We expect that you bring your own multimeters to use during the workshop/lecture.

The workshop can last for 3, 6 or 12 hours.

The target group for this workshop are high school students. The group sizes depend on the amount of high school students that will participate, but the equipment can cover up to 9 groups. We recommend groups of 3-4 students. If you are more than that, let us know and we will figure it out. We expect that you bring your own multimeters to use during the workshop/lecture.

To obtain the best learning outcome for the students, it is important that teachers actively participate in the workshop and help the instructors facilitate exercises and dialogue with the class. We also hope you will support the final evaluation so that we can continuously improve our programme.

Price

The activity itself is free. However, we charge a transportation fee if the visit lies outside the Region of Southern Denmark. If you come to us, you will cover your own transportation costs.
