I am particularly interested in teaching evaluation, educational leadership, and the impact of the physical learning space on student learning.
My support for physical learning environments includes both consulting on the overall design of our teaching spaces and providing one-on-one guidance to teachers who wish to use the classroom and its setup more actively.
My starting point in dialogues with teachers is that the room setup alone cannot improve learning outcomes, but it can support the pedagogy applied in the space—moving towards more active learning and thereby influencing outcomes. The key is that teachers first clarify what they want to achieve, then consider how the room can support that goal, and finally evaluate after teaching where in the room the desired behaviors did (or did not) occur.
