SDU Biomedical Engineering Centre
The Biomedical Engineering Centre (BEC) at The University of Southern Denmark integrates expertise from health sciences, engineering and natural sciences to address complex medical challenges. The Centre's research areas include computational biomechanics, physiological signal processing and data science for the development of new preventative, diagnostic and therapeutic technologies. This interdisciplinary approach fosters innovation in patient care and medical systems.
BEC’s knowledge of regulatory pathways and business development greatly helps with bringing the innovative research to higher technology readiness levels (TRL). There are particular competences within the domain of need-led innovation providing a great opportunity to optimize translation.
Through these initiatives, SDU's Biomedical Engineering Centre plays a vital role in advancing healthcare solutions and medical knowledge.

SDU students invent new mine-clearing technology for Ukraine
Two engineering students from the University of Southern Denmark have developed a series of affordable and accessible devices for mine clearance in Ukraine. This achievement has secured them a place in the finals of the European Defence Challenge in Brussels, which will be decided on 9 May.

SDU researchers are lead authors on a new UN report about cities: »Denmark should take leadership«
Professor Nicola Tollin and his colleagues from the UNESCO Chair on Urban Resilience (SDU.Resilience), together with the UN, published a report on cities and local climate action in international climate policies . The report shows that many countries still do not consider cities in their National Determined Contributions (NDCs), among these Denmark, despite all the climate actions currently occurring in Danish cities. Cities are an untapped potential for climate efforts, say the authors.

New study aims to uncover Danish waste habits in largest survey yet
The research project Change4Circularity at the University of Southern Denmark, Roskilde University, and The Royal Danish Academy aims to empower citizens, public authorities, and private companies to recycle more, consume less, and sort waste better to contribute to a circular economy. The research will be based on the largest dataset ever in the field, collected in Astra's Mass Experiment involving 40,000 children and young people.
