SDU researchers are lead authors on a new UN report about cities: »Denmark should take leadership«
Professor Nicola Tollin and his colleagues from the UNESCO Chair on Urban Resilience (SDU.Resilience), together with the UN, published a report on cities and local climate action in international climate policies . The report shows that many countries still do not consider cities in their National Determined Contributions (NDCs), among these Denmark, despite all the climate actions currently occurring in Danish cities. Cities are an untapped potential for climate efforts, say the authors.

New study aims to uncover Danish waste habits in largest survey yet
The research project Change4Circularity at the University of Southern Denmark, Roskilde University, and The Royal Danish Academy aims to empower citizens, public authorities, and private companies to recycle more, consume less, and sort waste better to contribute to a circular economy. The research will be based on the largest dataset ever in the field, collected in Astra's Mass Experiment involving 40,000 children and young people.

New type of innovation has emerged during COVID-19
Whisky and gin from Nyborg Distillery becomes hand sanitizer, Grundfos makes 100,000 visors and fibre materials are used for face masks instead of nappies. Researchers from the University of Southern Denmark have studied the redirection of resources in Danish companies to produce personal protective equipment (PPE) during the corona crisis, and they have discovered an entirely new type of innovation.

Crisps with less salt taste just as good
The pleasure of eating crisps is not diminished by cutting the salt content significantly. Crisps taste just as good when containing 30 percent less salt. Researchers at the University of Southern Denmark have come to this surprising conclusion by testing 200 young persons’ taste in crisps.

SDU professors Peter Hasle and Jan Vang receives millions in grants from Danida Fellowship Centre
The newly established unit of Global Sustainable Production at SDU has gotten of to a great start. The two professors, Peter Hasle and Jan Vang, have both received grants of 5 million DDK (approx. $750,000 USD) for research projects in Bangladesh and Myanmar respectively. Both projects are strongly related to SDU’s focus on the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Sustainable Procurement in Supply Chain Focusing on Danish Context
In June 2019, Devika Kannan from SDU Engineering Operations Management defended her PhD Thesis with the above title in which she focused on developing a toolkit that paves the path to implementation of Sustainable Procurement (SP) in the Danish private sector in Denmark. The results in Devika’s PhD thesis has great potential for making a difference in relation to SDG number 12. Work within this field is very relevant and timely as the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) are already now affecting consumers, institutions, companies, society and governments globally, and will do so to an even larger degree in the future.

CREATE Group announces the completion of the world ́s first 3D Printed bio - reactor featuring at the Centre Pompidou in Paris
The CREATE Group from the University of Southern Denmark and WASP Hub Denmark announces the completion of HORTUS_XL | Astaxanthin.g, the world´s first 3D Printed bio-reactor, developed in a research partnership with ecoLogicStudio and the Synthetic Landscape Lab at Innsbruck University. The work is featured in the exhibition “Le Fabrique du Vivant” at the Centre Pompidou in Paris from 20 February to 15 April 2019.

Great award for engineering students
Even though the bachelor of engineers, Jesper Holm Bjernemose and Anders Skytte Hansen, are working on the last piece of their master's thesis in Structural Engineering at SDU, there were a couple of happy and proud recipients who had chosen to take a day out to be hounored with the prestigious M-award (The Mechanical Engineering’s Initiative Fund Award) at an event in the House of Engineers in Copenhagen.
