“I work as an HR consultant in Rambøll’s HR department, focusing on attracting, developing, motivating, and retaining employees. My focus is designing processes and concepts for leadership, talent, and career development. I hold an Cand.negot. in Business, Language and Culture, which provides me with a strong combination of analytical skills, business understanding, and human insight that I apply in my work.

We have around 18,000 employees across many countries and business areas, which makes ‘career’ a dynamic concept. If you ask 100 people what career means to them, you may get 100 different answers. My job is to understand those differences and translate them into solutions that work in practice.

That requires staying close to employees and leaders and understanding their experiences. I use many methods I learned during my studies, especially qualitative interviews. For example, when I helped develop a global onboarding programme for new leaders. We interviewed leaders about their first six months in the role to understand their challenges and needs, and we used that insight to design the programme.

Another major part of my work is learning. Rambøll is a knowledge-based company, and our employees are, to a large extent, our product. That’s why I work on how learning can happen in everyday work – close to the job and at the moment the need arises. What’s often called ‘learning in the flow of work’ is a powerful concept but also complex to make work in a large organisation.

If I were to give advice to prospective students, it would be to focus less on the final job title and more on the competencies you build during your studies. The labour market is changing quickly, and the roles that exist today may look different in just a few years. The most important thing is to develop your own toolkit – the skills you can bring into practice while also building a strong network. And a learning mindset is crucial: the ability to learn new things quickly and adapt.”
