Have you completed a Master’s degree programme?

What is the 'Master's degree rule'?

The Master’s degree rule is an admission restriction that applies if you have already completed a Master’s degree programme or if you will complete a Master’s degree programme before the start of your studies.

Under this rule, you can only be admitted to a new higher education course if there are fewer applicants than student places on the course you are applying for.

As all SDU programmes have a limited number of student places, we cannot tell you in advance which programmes have available places.

How to apply if you are not subject to the Master’s degree rule

You must apply via optagelse.dk and follow the general application process, including the general application deadlines.

See closing dates and other important dates.

You will receive a response to your application on 28 July.

Criteria for prioritising candidates subject to the Master’s degree rule

If a programme has vacant student places but the number of places is lower than the number of applicants with a Master's degree, SDU will prioritise between the applicants on the basis of the following criteria:

  1. Applicants with a Master’s degree who applied under Quota 2 and participated in the test-based admission will be ranked according to their Quota 2 results and will have priority over applicants with a Master’s degree who did not participate in the test-based admission.
  2. Applicants who have not participated in the test-based admission procedure under Quota 2 will be ranked according to the grade point average of their qualifying examination, and they must also meet the grade requirement under Quota 1.

Possibility of exemption

SDU can grant an exemption from the Master’s degree rule if you can demonstrate that you can no longer use your Master’s degree professionally due to exceptional circumstances.
